Sensorial Activities

The growth of an enquiring mind

Maria Montessori knew that young children learn through their senses and hands-on manipulation. Developed to challenge your child’s judgement of size, shape, colour, sound, taste, smell, texture, weight or heat these activities are self-correcting and form the base for the expansion of each child’s cognitive development.

Mathematics

Critical thinking begins here

Maria Montessori believed that young children had a mathematical mind which tends to estimate, needs to quantify, to see similarity and difference and patterns, to make order and to control error. The Montessori numeracy material allows each child to progress in a systematic way learning about the integrity of numbers in relation to numerals, always using objects to support the learning.

Literacy

The joy of successful communication

A language rich-environment is the basis for the Montessori development of literacy skills. When a child is ready they are introduced to the sound each letter makes and how it is written before progressing through a colour-coded phonetic system incorporating writing and grammar.

History and Geography

Making sense of the world around them

Maria Montessori believed these activities helped nurture children’s understanding of respect for all humanity as a foundation toward peaceful co-existence.

Montessori History introduces your child to the story of ‘Our Planet’ using a Time Line – each Era depicted by the of correct length of that Era and in a different colour. As your child makes their own Time Line their history begins to make sense.

Montessori Geography introduces your child to a ‘hands-on’ Montessori globe and puzzle – where each Continent is in a different colour.  Different Countries and Continents are introduced to your child helping them appreciate more about different cultures.

Unique Child

There's no-one quite like me

With staff that understand each child is different and learn in different ways we can make sure no child is left behind. If your child loves dinosaurs or dolphins, mermaids or music, spiders or super-heroes we can make it part of their learning. Following the pace of learning of each child and understanding what makes each child happy, or anxious will ensure your child’s nursery experience is a nurturing and happy one.
